Internships

Internships can be either paid or unpaid. Both options allow you to apply what you are learning in the classroom to the workplace and usually lasts for one semester.

Consider these hands-on experiences as a means to cultivate valuable and relevant competencies and develop a unique portfolio of work experience that sets you apart from your peers.

The following University of Florida programs offer internships for credit.

UF HONORS PROGRAM

Internship credit (IDH4940) is available for Honors students that have secured an internship outside of their field of study or students that are not offered internship credit through your department.

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE

The Department of Political Science encourages all of its undergraduate students to serve as an intern at the local, state, federal, and international level and in every branch of government—executive, legislative, and judicial. Internships are also available with candidates running for political office, political parties and interest groups (including nonprofit and lobbying organizations), and law firms engaged in governmental relations and issue research.

DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY

A practicum or internship (CCJ 4940) can enhance your undergraduate studies by providing an opportunity for students to gain valuable real-world experience. In order to enroll in an internship you must be 3LS or 4LS criminology major.

HERBERT WERTHEIM COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

Undergraduates are encouraged to seek out internships as an opportunity to integrate classroom instruction with practical work experience. Internships must be related to the academic major or career field interest, and conducted under approved industrial, business, institutional or governmental agency supervision. Positions not acceptable for internship are blue-collar work, technician, data entry, clerical, part-time, etc.

DEPARTMENT OF ADVERTISING

The advertising department offers two internship options for students in the major. Students seeking credit for a traditional internship may consider ADV 4940, the Advertising Internship, while students with a more advanced internship opportunity may consider ADV 4941, the Advanced Advertising Internship.

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC RELATIONS

Students can receive credit for their internship through PUR4940 – Public Relations Internship. Students may receive 1 credit for performing 65 hours of internship, 2 credits for performing 130 hours of internship or 3 credits for performing 195 hours of internship. Students may receive up to 3 internship credits..
