The University of Florida and the Career Connections Center are actively monitoring Hurricane Ian and its potential impacts on the state of Florida. You should have received an email from the University stating that classes and all academic and student-related activities, including online classes, at the University of Florida campus in Gainesville will be canceled Wednesday, Sept. 28 through Friday, Sept. 30, because of Hurricane Ian.

As the university’s career center, we wanted message you to support your planning for this upcoming week. Much remains unknown about the projected storm’s path and the projected storm’s exact trajectory remains uncertain, here’s what we know today:

• Tuesday, September 27th Fall 2022 Career Showcase (non-technical day) will occur as planned.

• Diversity Meet-Up on Tuesday, September 27th will be rescheduled.

• The Material Science & Nuclear Engineering Fair and the Agricultural and Biological Engineering Fair both scheduled for Wednesday, September 28th will be rescheduled.

• All additional recruiting events and career development programs including Career Planning, Post Showcase Interviews and Information Sessions hosted on Wednesday, September 28th through Friday, September 30th can be rescheduled based on the employers.

• Employer hosted events held Tuesday may still take place at the discretion of the employer. Visit Gator CareerLink to learn more about the plans for each employers.

Employers have received email communications regarding the University’s class closures due to Hurricane Ian and are working with the career center to reschedule opportunities for connection with UF candidates.

In the meantime, we want to ensure you are still able to make strides towards your career goals. The following are action steps to support your continued career development:

• Check Gator CareerLink for upcoming programs and rescheduled events.

• Upload your most current resume to Gator CareerLink for use in the university’s resume books for employers. Should you give employers permission, employers can access your resume and outreach to you for various career experiences.

• Visit the Career Connections Center’s website for the resource library to support your job search.

You should anticipate receiving additional information from us to support rescheduled career events and recruiting activities for you to connect with employers in the coming weeks.
